Common Toilet Problems We Fix

Running or Constantly Refilling Toilets

A toilet that never stops running usually means a worn flapper, a faulty fill valve, or an improperly set float. These parts are inexpensive, but a running toilet can waste hundreds of gallons a week. Our toilet repair and installation team pinpoints the cause and restores normal operation quickly.

Leaking Toilets

Water pooling around the base often points to a failed wax ring or loose mounting bolts, while tank leaks can come from cracked components or worn seals. Left alone, a leak damages your flooring and subfloor — and in Florida's humidity, invites mold. If you suspect a hidden leak elsewhere, our leak detection team can help.

Weak or Incomplete Flushing

Poor flushing can be caused by clogs, mineral buildup in the rim jets, or low water pressure. If several fixtures flush or drain weakly, the issue may be in your supply lines — see our guide to low water pressure in bathrooms.

Clogs and Slow Drains

Recurring clogs sometimes reach beyond the toilet into your main line. When that happens, our drain and sewer services clear the blockage at its source.

Toilet Repair & Installation FAQs

Why does my toilet keep running?

A running toilet is usually caused by a worn flapper, a faulty fill valve, or a chain that's the wrong length. These are common, affordable repairs. Fixing a running toilet quickly can save hundreds of gallons of water and lower your water bill.

When should I replace my toilet instead of repairing it?

Replacement is often the better choice if your toilet has cracks in the bowl or tank, clogs often, rocks on the floor, or is an older high-water-use model. A new toilet can use much less water per flush. Our plumbers can help you choose a model and install it the right way.

What should I do if my toilet is overflowing?

First, turn off the water at the shutoff valve behind the toilet, near the floor. Then lift the tank lid and push the flapper down to stop more water from flowing in. Florida Flush Plumbing is available 24/7, so call us anytime for emergency toilet repair.

Why doesn't my toilet bowl fill up all the way?

A low water level in the bowl is often caused by a loose or misplaced refill tube inside the tank, a fill valve that's worn out or set too low, or mineral buildup blocking the small holes under the rim. A partial clog or a blocked plumbing vent can also pull water out of the bowl after you flush. Our plumbers can find the cause and get your toilet flushing strongly again.

  1. The refill tube. Lift the tank lid. There's a small flexible tube coming off the fill valve (the tall part on the left). It should clip onto the top of the open pipe in the middle of the tank, called the overflow tube. If it has slipped off or fallen into the water, the bowl won't refill. Just clip it back on. This is the most common cause, and it's free to fix.
  2. The tank water level. The water in the tank should sit about an inch below the top of that overflow tube. If it's much lower, the fill valve may need adjusting, usually by turning a screw or sliding a clip on the valve.
  3. The rim holes. In hard-water areas, the little holes under the bowl's rim can clog with mineral buildup. A small mirror helps you see them, and a bent wire hanger or vinegar can clear them.
  4. Gurgling sounds. If the bowl level drops on its own, or you hear gurgling from the toilet when you run the sink or shower, that points to a partial clog or a blocked vent. That one's worth calling a plumber for.

New Toilet Installation

When repair no longer makes sense, we handle complete toilet repair and installation including removal and disposal of your old unit, a proper new wax ring and supply connection, and a full leak test before we leave. Upgrading to a modern water-efficient model lowers your water bill and improves performance. Toilet work is also a common part of any bathroom remodel plumbing project, and it pairs naturally with bathroom faucets and sinks upgrades.
